Six (6) Things You Need To Know About UNICAL PRE-DEGREE Program:
1. Securing admission through PRE-DEGREE in UNICAL is very cheap and easy, if you stay focused.
PD is a two semester program, where the subjects you will be taught, are familiar to you, such as: MATHEMATICS, ENGLISH LANGUAGE, BIOLOGY, CHEMISTRY AND PHYSICS.
2. TIME FOR PREDEGREE LECTURES.
PRE-DEGREE lectures hold by 7am - 8am, from Mondays - Fridays, as one subject is treated each day.
On Saturdays, the classes hold from 7am - 12pm, as the five subjects are treated (1hr for each subject).
3. COURSES THAT CAN BE SECURED THROUGH PRE-DEGREE.
The following courses can be secured through PRE-DEGREE:
I. FACULTY OF ENGINEERING:
Electrical/Electronics Engineering
Computer Engineering
Civil and Environmental Engineering
Mechanical Engineering
Agric. Engineering
Petroleum Engineering
Chemical Engineering
II. FACULTY OF PHYSICAL SCIENCES:
- Geology
- Mathematics
- Statistics
- Computer Science
- Pure and Applied Chemistry
- Physics
- Geophysics
- Electronics and Computer Technology (ECT)
- Physical Oceanography.
III. FACULTY OF BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES
- Microbiology
- Botany
- Genetics and Biotechnology
- Zoology and Environmental Biology
- Marine Biology
- Fishery and Aquaculture.
IV. FACULTY OF EDUCATION
- Education and Chemistry
- Education and Physics
- Education and Biology
- Education and Mathematics
V. FACULTY OF AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES

- Soil science.
Though, you can be given a medical course, if you happen to pick 25/25 points depending. Last session and the session before, few students from PRE-DEGREE were admitted into the faculty of Pharmacy.
4. HOW POINTS ARE CALCULATED.
A = 5 POINTS
B = 4 POINTS
C = 3 POINTS
D = 2 POINTS
E = 1 POINT
F = 0 POINT.
For example, after the first semester PRE-DEGREE examination, if you happen to get an A in MATHS, B in ENGLISH, C in BIOLOGY, D in CHEMISTRY, E in PHYSICS; your total number of points in first semester would be calculated as 5+4+3+2+1= 15 POINTS. If you repeat same grades in the 2ND SEMESTER, then it will be said that you picked up 15 POINTS out of possible 25 POINTS.
5. METHOD OF CHOOSING COURSE OF YOUR CHOICE.
At the end of the first semester, placement form will be given to PRE-DEGREE STUDENTS. In the form, you will be eligible to choose three (3) courses of your choice.
1ST CHOICE, 2ND CHOICE AND 3RD CHOICE. If you fail to make the cut off point of your first choice course, you will be considered for your 2ND CHOICE COURSE, if your point is up to it; same with your 3RD CHOICE COURSE.
6. AMOUNT FOR REGISTRATION.
The card/pin is available only in calabar, and is sold for N10,000.00 only
